Waiting on Wednesday (7)

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies features the original text of Jane Austen's beloved novel with all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie action. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton—and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she's soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers—and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield as Elizabeth wages war against hordes of flesh-eating undead. Complete with 20 illustrations in the style of C. E. Brock (the original illustrator of Pride and Prejudice), this insanely funny expanded edition will introduce Jane Austen's classic novel to new legions of fans.

My Thoughts: I saw this on Sarah MacLean's blog yesterday morning and was instantly laughing. Doesn't this book look AWESOME?!! Now, I haven't read the original, but I would so read this. Kudos for such an awesome idea!

Also, I posted three new reviews and a QnA on the myspace blog- go check it out!!

  1. Whaat? I love zombies but I think this may be going a bit too far.

    I'm excited for it anyway.

  3. I think it sounds horrible -like someone is capitalizing a bit too much on Jane Austen and the people who buy everything associated with her.

  4. Bookworm- lol, no it's not a joke. At first, I thought it was, but it's not! It's an actual book that'll be released this spring.

But it's so awesome! I've already talked with my friend Becca and whenever we do our book of deleted scenes from classic novels, we'll be including some zombie scenes, hehe.

Taren- What if it had been someone else, like George Eliot (Mill on the Zombie, Zombie Middlemarch) or Emily Bronte (Wuthering Zombie), i.e. a classic writer that's lesser known? Would it be better then?

  6. I think the cover is seriously creepy. Although this does remind me of Maureen Johnson and that contest she had awhile back where entrants were made to insert zombies into scenes from novels. Haha, I guess someone decided to take it all the way!

  7. One more thing: Moby Dick would have been a lot easier to digest last semester if it had been Zombie Dick (ooh, dirty) instead.
