Blog Tour- A Need So Beautiful by Suzanne Young

A Need So Beautiful by Suzanne Young
"We all want to be remembered. Charlotte's destiny is to be Forgotten...

Charlotte’s best friend thinks Charlotte might be psychic. Her boyfriend thinks she’s cheating on him. But Charlotte knows what’s really wrong: She is one of the Forgotten, a kind of angel on earth, who feels the Need—a powerful, uncontrollable draw to help someone, usually a stranger.

But Charlotte never wanted this responsibility. What she wants is to help her best friend, whose life is spiraling out of control. She wants to lie in her boyfriend's arms forever. But as the Need grows stronger, it begins to take a dangerous toll on Charlotte. And who she was, is, and will become--her mark on this earth, her very existence--is in jeopardy of disappearing completely.

Charlotte will be forced to choose: Should she embrace her fate as a Forgotten, a fate that promises to rip her from the lives of those she loves forever? Or is she willing to fight against her destiny--no matter how dark the consequences."- summary from ARC

This new offering from Young is completely different from her Naughty List series and it's a fantastic, original novel. I got to read the first few chapters before the book sold and I knew that this was something special. I love the idea of The Forgotten and The Need and all the other stuff that make up the mythology in the story.

Young crafts her characters well and really makes the reader care for them. It's heart-wrenching reading about some of the things Charlotte goes through, but there's also those times when she's having fun with Sarah, Alex or Harlin and the reader feels her happiness too. All of the characters felt real to me and I can't wait for the sequel to see them all again. I also really liked Young's inclusion of gay characters where it's just accepted and not made into a big deal. It was nice to see that.

The plot was compelling and I felt like I had The Need because I couldn't put it down until I was done! There are some great reveals and twists and turns throughout the story. It was just a pleasure to read. This book just reinforced my being a Suzanne Young fan for life.

So go pre-order this book or get it when it hits stores on June 21! You won't regret it.

And here's an interview with Suzanne:

1) How did you get the idea for A Need So Beautiful, and how long was the publication journey?

I’d been thinking about A Need so Beautiful for about a year before actually starting it. Originally I had this idea about the people around us, the people we meet for just a moment who impact us—and then they’re gone. What if they were really a sort of angel, leading us in a direction or offering us comfort when we needed it most? And as I started to write the book, I thought about love—real love—and then the story took on a life of its own.

I sold A Need so Beautiful in January of 2010 and it publishes June 2011. I’m getting excited about the cover for book two, A Want So Wicked, because it was August of last year that I started to see images for the cover of ANSB. Fun!

2) I've already asked you what your favorite jelly bean flavor is, so I wanna know if there's a favorite snack you like to have while writing, or as a reward for writing?

My favorite snack while writing is a big ol’ bag of candy corn! And if I can’t find any CC, I’ll switch to Reese’s Pieces.

3) What are you currently working on? I wanna hear all about it!

I’m working on the sequel, A Want so Wicked (Summer 2012), and THE PROGRAM which will publish Summer of 2013 with Simon Pulse. It’s about teen suicide and a treatment for it that erases memories.
