Ask Book Chic (4) + Contest

We're on the fourth edition of Ask Book Chic, which is totally awesome!! I hope you're all enjoying these as much as I am. Please continue to ask questions, either here on this post or you can send them to my email, because I'm all out now! I'm pretty busy for the next few weeks in terms of posting, but I want to be able to continue doing this. If you ask a question by June 11, you'll be put into a drawing for a book. Not sure what yet, but I may just let the winner pick whatever they want from my bookshelves (including some BEA titles)! So ask those questions! Thanks!

Alexa asks "a) Who are your favourite authors, the ones where you are counting down to their next book?

b) Do you wait a while to review a book or do you write the review straight away?

c) Favourite Book of 2010 so far?"

A) Um, that would be a lot, lol. I guess if I had to narrow it down, I'd say Meg Cabot, Lisa McMann, Michele Jaffe, Jordanna Fraiberg, Ellen Hopkins.

B) It depends. I used to write them right after because I'd have to post them right away. You know how some people live paycheck to paycheck? Well, I lived review to review, lol. I was always behind. I've FINALLY gotten ahead and it feels so good. I can take a bit of time reading something or waiting to write a review if need be and I don't feel as pressured to post because I have stuff scheduled already. I still try to write the reviews as soon as possible after finishing, but sometimes I end up waiting several days or over a week before writing down my thoughts.

C) I think I mentioned that it was my favorite so far this year in the review for this book, but Guardian of the Dead by Karen Healey was simply amazing. However, the year is barely half over and there's tons of books I'm looking forward to, like Matched by Ally Condie, Rosebush by Michele Jaffe, and some others.

Rose asks "Where is your favorite place to read?"

My favorite place would probably have to be my bed, even if doing so usually makes me tired and then I end up taking a nap, lol. Either that, or the couch. But I read anywhere and everywhere.

Amy asks "Do you like to listen to music or have the TV on in the background, or do you prefer quiet when you read?"

I definitely prefer quiet when I read. I can read while music or TV is on, but it's very distracting and I don't get as much done. Occasionally, I'll chat with people while I read, but I do my best to just sit on the couch or lay in bed without doing anything else so I can focus on the book.

What book has been the biggest surprise for you? (i.e. one that didn't sound like something you'd enjoy, but you ended up loving)

  5. Do you prefer when a story is in 1st or 3rd person? Do you have a preferred age for the protagonist? How old do they have to be for you to relate to them and not feel disconnected?

  7. Is there anything that you do differently when you read to review than when you read just for fun (not that reading to review isn't fun)?

  8. Rosebush by Michele Jaffe! I almost forgot I was waiting for that one.

Why do you think young boys are reading less than young girls?

  10. When you like a certain book from an author do you read all of their novels regardless of their plots? Or do you have to like the plot of a novel to read it, even it's from a favorite author?

I find that if I enjoy the author I want to read all of their novels even if I don't care for the sypnosis. A good example of an author is Richelle Mead, I have to buy all of her books :)
